Fillers are used for many cosmetic purposes. Most are used to enhance or soften cosmetic structures. Examples of areas of the face that are amenable to fillers are the lips, nasolabial folds (cheek creases running from the nose to the lips), and lines below the mouth (marionette lines).
Restylane, Juvederm and Radiesse are superb agents used to treat these areas. All three of these fillers are composed of substances that naturally exist in the body. Results are immediate and duration of effect is several months or longer depending on the agent used.
Restylane and Juvederm are composed of hyaluronic acid. They are our physicians fillers of choice for lip enhancement, and can also be used to treat nasolabial folds and marionette lines, and to soften the small wrinkles around the mouth. At times they can be used to fill in depressed scars. Results typically last 6 months or longer.
Radiesse is composed of Calcium Hydroxylapatite. In addition to acting as a filler, it also stimulates the skin to produce new collagen. It is used to treat nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Results typically last nine to 12 months or longer.
